The workshop is facilitated by Phil Jones, who is known for his work as a workshop facilitator and for the Fringe production Snow Along the Line. During the session, the focus will be on how to take anecdotes and real-life experiences and translate them into song structures. The content covers how to analyse conventions found in genres like folk, rock, and pop, and provides techniques for distilling complex ideas into catchy hooks and choruses. If you decide to attend, it is recommended that you bring a notepad, your instrument, and perhaps some photographs to help with the creative process during the workshop.
Regarding the logistics, the event is strictly for those aged 18 and over, and the 'Babes in Arms' policy does not apply, meaning children under two are not permitted. The venue, The Brunswick, is wheelchair accessible, has accessible toilets, and welcomes assistance dogs. It is worth noting that the session involves audience interaction, so be prepared for that dynamic. Tickets are priced at £30 for the standard rate, with a concession rate available at £20. It is a straightforward setup for anyone interested in the mechanics of songwriting and narrative development.
