Live band playing The Clash and The Stranglers songs, presented by Distant Echo with DJ Mickey Wild, for ages 21 and over.
Clash 'N' Sleazy play The Brunswick in Hove on Friday 20 November, presented by Distant Echo. It's a double-bill of The Clash and The Stranglers, with DJ Mickey Wild on the decks before and after the live sets.
The band describes themselves as a lover of both bands rather than a tribute act in the cover-band mould. They build their set by taking four songs from each band in chronological order, mixing album tracks alongside the singles, and holding the biggest hits back until the end of the second set. It's a structured way of moving through the catalogues of two of the era's defining punk bands, rather than just a run of the most familiar songs.
Behind the name is a group of seasoned musicians who've played for Chelsea, Chords UK, Past Tense and Superminx 70, among others. They're not newcomers to the scene, and the set is their own take on the material rather than a recreation. DJ Mickey Wild rounds out the night, spinning ska, reggae, new wave and punk classics before and after the live sets, so the music starts before the band even takes the stage.
