A theatre double bill featuring VS09, a comedy about a flight, and Lord Arthur Savile's Crime, a comedy of bungled murder attempts.
Brighton Little Theatre is putting on a double bill this September, pairing two very different plays in one night: VS09 and Lord Arthur Savile's Crime. It runs from Tuesday 14 to Friday 18 September, with a double session on Saturday 14 September — a matinee at 14:30 and an evening show at 19:30. The rest of the week, the curtain goes up at 19:30.
VS09, with the full title Everyone's Going Somewhere. Not Everyone Is Ready to Leave, is set in the departures lounge of Heathrow Airport. Six passengers, an airport worker, and a flight to New York all collide in the same space, testing relationships and sparking unexpected connections as they wait to take off. It's a contemporary piece that keeps the action in one room, letting the interactions between the characters do the heavy lifting.
Lord Arthur Savile's Crime comes from Oscar Wilde, and it's a comedy of bungled murder attempts. The story kicks off when a fashionable palm reader predicts that Lord Arthur will commit a murder, and rather than ignore it, he decides to postpone his wedding and set a plan in motion. What follows is a series of failed attempts, social absurdity, and some wonderfully bad decisions. It's billed as 'A Grim Prediction. A Perfect Gentleman. A Murderously Good Plan', and it carries that sharp, Wildean wit throughout.

Putting them together gives you two quite different nights in one: a modern study of people in transit and a classic comedy of manners gone wrong. The Little Theatre is at 9 Clarence Gardens, Brighton, BN1 2EG, and tickets are £12.00 standard.
