Children and adults make their own lantern with a flame-less candle and hear folk tales of old British traditions around bonfires.
Craft with Kids is hosting a Bonfire Night lantern workshop at Alchymis on Thursday 5 November, from 16:00 to 17:30. It's a session for children and the adults who come with them, and it's built around a simple question: why do we light bonfires in autumn? The answer, as it turns out, isn't just about the cold weather.
Each child and adult makes their own lantern, with a flame-less candle inside. Once the lanterns are finished, the lights go out, and the group shares folk tales of old British traditions surrounding the transition to autumn and the protective power of fire. The stories are the heart of the thing, so you're not just walking away with a craft project, but with a bit of the folklore that sits behind the tradition.
