Drop-in watercolour workshop with Birmingham artist Shaheen Ahmed to paint a Celtic knot in the style of William Morris.
Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is hosting a William Morris inspired watercolour workshop on Saturday 21 November, run by Birmingham-based artist Shaheen Ahmed. It's a drop-in session, so you can turn up whenever suits you between 11am and 3pm, rather than having to commit to a fixed start time.
The session is set around a specific project: painting a Celtic knot in the style of William Morris's vine leaves and daisies. Morris is one of the most recognisable names in British design, and his work is all about those flowing, organic patterns that seem to grow right off the page. Here, you'll be working with those same motifs — the vine leaves and daisies — but woven into a Celtic knot, so it's a bit of a crossover between two very different traditions.
Shaheen Ahmed is the one leading the way. He's a Birmingham artist who recently created digital artwork as part of a commission for the National Trust, so he's used to working with these kinds of patterns and bringing them to life. He'll be on hand throughout the day to help you get the shapes right and work through the watercolour.

The whole thing takes place in the museum's Industrial Gallery, and because it's a drop-in, you can spend as little or as much time as you like. If you're just passing through, you can pop in for a half hour; if you're really getting into it, you can stay for a few hours. It's a good one if you've always wanted to try watercolour but didn't fancy signing up for a full course. The workshop runs from 11am to 3pm on Saturday 21 November at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.
