World premiere musical adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novel Trainspotting, with new songs and a live band, recommended for ages 15 and over.
Trainspotting The Musical opens at The Alexandra on Monday 30 November, with the run continuing until Saturday 5 December. It's the world premiere of the stage adaptation, and it's Irvine Welsh himself who's brought his own novel to the stage.
Thirty years on from the film that changed everything, the story returns to the screen's drug-crazed working-class heroes, now set against a modern landscape. It follows the same gang you'll remember — Renton, Sick Boy, Begbie, Spud, Tommy and Kelly — alongside an ensemble cast and a live band. The production is described as funny, loud, dynamic and full of a dark, dangerous energy, with new songs sitting alongside the classics. It's presented by Phil McIntyre Live and runs for around two hours with one interval, and it's recommended for ages 15 and over.
Welsh wrote the book, and the music and lyrics are by Stephen McGuinness and Welsh, with Caroline Jay Ranger directing and developing the show. The whole thing is a world premiere, so this is the first time it's being staged.
