Live concert by the Scottish duo The Proclaimers, known for 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)', at Symphony Hall in Birmingham.
The Proclaimers play Symphony Hall on Saturday 7 November, their only Birmingham date of the run. It's the Scottish duo Charlie and Craig Reid, identical twins who've been touring and releasing music since 1987.
Most people know them from 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)', which became the theme for the film Benny & Joon and the Terry Fox Run charity event, and 'Letter From America'. Early in their career, producers were wary of the strong accent in their songs, and the twins refused to tone down their Scottish brogue. They ended up writing 'Throw the R Away' as a response. That stubbornness has stayed with them; they've kept the accent and the songs going for nearly four decades.
Their live show has also crossed over into comedy, with the duo appearing on the Comic Relief version of Little Britain. It's a long history of touring behind them, and this is a full-band night with the two of them fronting it. The set is built around the songs they're best known for, so you'll hear the ones that have stayed in the public consciousness since the late eighties.
