Improvised comedy show by The Pretend Company, part of the Birmingham Improv Festival 2026.
The Pretend Company bring their improvised theatre to MAC Birmingham on Thursday 5 November, as part of the Birmingham Improv Festival 2026. They're an improv company working across London and Southend, and this is their show The Pretend Comedy.
They describe their work as improvised theatre that's as funny as it is heart-felt, built around three-dimensional characters and real-feeling relationships balanced against belly laughs and absurd flights of fancy. It's played by a cast of veteran improvisers, so the whole thing is made up on the spot rather than scripted. If you've never seen improv, that's the thing to keep in mind: nothing is written down, and the scene changes and character arcs are built in the moment.
The show is one part of the Birmingham Improv Festival 2026, which the organisers are billing as their best and boldest line-up yet. Over four days, the festival brings together world-class teachers and performers from the UK, Europe and the USA, so there's more to it than just this one night. If you're planning to see more than one show, a festival pass gives you access to every performance across the whole run.

The Pretend Comedy starts at 7:30pm and runs for an hour, with tickets at £13.95. It's at MAC Birmingham, and since it's part of the wider festival, it's a good one to pair with other shows if you're spending the whole four days on the improv circuit.
