International live theatre show that blends improvisation, devised theatre, music and storytelling, inspired by the Oracle of Delphi, at MAC Birmingham.
The Oracle comes to MAC Birmingham on Friday 6 November, a one-night-only show that forms part of the Birmingham Improv Festival. It's an international live theatre production, so it's not a local piece that's been touring the city's smaller rooms; this is a visiting show that only plays the MAC once during the festival.
As for what it actually is, it's a bit of a hybrid. It blends improvisation, devised theatre, music and storytelling, so it doesn't sit neatly in one box. The characters and rituals draw on the ancient Greek Oracle of Delphi, and the whole thing is built around the questions the audience brings to it. The idea is to open up the things people are wondering about life and living in today's world, so the night is shaped by what's on people's minds when they walk through the door.
Because it's an improv show, the evening changes depending on who's in the room and what they ask, which is why it's a one-off rather than a run. The Greek theme provides the frame, but the actual content comes from the audience, and the music and storytelling fill in the gaps around it. If you've never seen improv before, it's worth keeping in mind that the performers are making it up as they go, so no two nights are the same.

The show runs for an hour, starting at 7:30pm, and tickets are £13.95. Since it's a one-time-only performance as part of the Birmingham Improv Festival, this is the only chance to catch it at the MAC.
