The Lost Notes, the folk and soul band from Moseley, play The Red Lion Folk Club in Kings Heath.
The Lost Notes play the Red Lion Folk Club on Wednesday 4 November, bringing their full band to the Kings Heath pub. They're a Birmingham band through and through, born and based in the Blaglands of Moseley, and they've spent the last few years working their way across the folk and festival circuit. You'll have seen them at Shrewsbury Folk Festival and Moseley Folk Festival, and they've played the Birmingham Symphony Hall and the MAC.
The sound comes from the two principal songwriters, Ben Mills and Oli Jobes, and it's built on the two of them pulling from each other's tastes: Oli leans folk, Ben digs jazz, and the result is part folk with a drag of soul roots, a slug of gospel and country, and a thump of jazz around the edges. Their third album, Good Luck Shoes, got played on BBC Radio and was named a British Country Music Association 'Editors Choice'.
On the night, the full band takes the stage: Ben Mills on vocals, guitar, piano and harmonica; Oli Jobes on lead guitar and vocals; Lucy Mills on vocals and cowbell; Pete Churchill on double bass; and Max Tomlinson on drums. It's a five-piece line-up, so you'll get the full band sound rather than a stripped-back version.

The gig is at the Red Lion Folk Club, which runs in the upstairs function room of The Red Lion on Vicarage Road in Kings Heath. It's an award-winning folk club, and the pub serves food if you want to eat before you head upstairs. A practical one to keep in mind: there's no lift to the function room, though priority seating is available. Doors open at 7:30pm, music starts at 8:00pm, and tickets are £15.40 via WeGotTickets.
