A conversation exploring the life and work of Balraj Khanna with Kaushalia Khanna, Francine Khanna and Antonia Blocker, opening the 'Lines of Flight' exhibition.
The Balraj Khanna Estate will be in conversation with Ikon Gallery's Antonia Blocker on Saturday 21 November, from 3.00pm to 4.00pm. The Estate is represented by Kaushalia Khanna, the artist's daughter and Director of the Estate, and Francine Khanna, the artist's wife. Together they'll be talking through the life and work of Balraj Khanna (1939-2024), one of Britain's most significant post-war artists of South Asian origin, whose career spanned six decades.
The conversation is part of Lines of Flight, the first major survey of his work, which brings together more than 40 paintings made across those sixty years. The Estate of Balraj Khanna, directed by Kaushalia, stewards the artist's collection, archive and intellectual legacy, so this is a chance to hear about his practice from the people who knew him best and who are now looking after everything he left behind.
Antonia Blocker joins them from a curatorial background that includes Modern Art Oxford, the Zabludowicz Collection, Whitechapel Gallery, ICA and the Serpentine, and she's currently curating the 2026 London Contemporary Music Festival. She'll be leading the discussion, so it's less of a formal presentation and more of a conversation that opens up Khanna's life and work.
