Cinematic dining experience with a multi-course menu inspired by the film Ratatouille, served during the screening.
Taste Film are bringing Ratatouille to The Button Factory on Sunday 18 October, and it's not your usual cinema trip. The whole point of Taste Film is that you eat the movie while you watch it, so instead of a bucket of popcorn, you'll be working your way through a multi-course menu inspired by the film, served course after course during the screening.
If you've seen Ratatouille before, you know the food is practically a character in its own right. The story follows Remy, a rat with a gourmet's palate who ends up running a Parisian kitchen, and the film spends a good deal of its time on the art of cooking. That's exactly where the evening picks up. The menu is built around the flavours and dishes from the film, so as the story unfolds on screen, the courses come out to match what's happening in the kitchen. It's a bit of a double-feature, then: the movie and the meal running side by side.
Taste Film describes the night as "a tasting menu for the whimsical: a feast for dreamers, food lovers and anyone who believes in following their passions." They frame the screening as pairing the film with "course after course of inspired flavour combinations designed to spark the imagination, emotionally and physically." It's a fair bit more than just a themed dinner; the food is meant to mirror the film's own obsession with passion and the joy of a well-made dish.
