Free Sunday afternoon live music session at The Sunflower Lounge with Rory Butler and Freya Stevenson playing upstairs in the bar.
Rory Butler and Freya Stevenson are playing The Sunflower Lounge on Sunday 25 October, part of the venue's Sunday On The Mezz series. It's an afternoon session, starting at 1pm, and entry is free.
If you've been to The Sunflower Lounge before, you'll know it's a two-level spot: the basement is where the main gigs happen, and the bar is upstairs. Sunday On The Mezz is a relatively new addition to the programming that makes use of both. It runs most Sunday afternoons when there's a gig booked in the basement for the night; while the crowd gathers below, one or two performers play upstairs from the mezzanine, looking down over the room. Butler and Stevenson are the two taking the mezzanine this time.
The Sunflower Lounge has been a fixture of Birmingham's live circuit since 2002, and it's built a reputation for booking underground and breaking talent in that basement bar. Over the years, it's hosted intimate sets from Peace, The Amazons, Foals, Wolf Alice, Royal Blood, Dua Lipa, Rat Boy and Swim Deep. Sunday On The Mezz adds another layer to that, turning a Sunday afternoon into a live session rather than just a drink in the pub.
