Soul II Soul, the British funk and soul band from the soundsystem scene, plays Symphony Hall on Broad Street.
Soul II Soul play Symphony Hall on Monday 19 October, their only Birmingham date of the tour. It's a headline show, so they're the only act on the bill.
If you're not familiar with them, they're a group that emerged from the British soundsystem culture, and that's a good way to understand where they come from. That soundsystem background — the heavy bass, the focus on the dancefloor, the way they build a groove and hold it — is what sits at the heart of their sound. It's music that grew out of the clubs and the street parties of London, and that's the energy they bring to the stage.
It's a Monday night, which is a bit of a change from the usual weekend run, but it puts them right in the middle of the city. Symphony Hall is on Broad Street, B1 2EA, so it's easy enough to get to from the centre. The show starts at 20:00, and with them as the sole feature, there's no support act to work through first — it's just Soul II Soul from the start.
