The Notebenders bring their unique mix of jazz and calypso music to the Jennifer Blackwell Performance Space at Symphony Hall.
The Notebenders are playing Symphony Hall on Saturday 17 October, with their set running from 13:00 to 14:30. It's part of the Sax In The City series, and the performance takes place in the Jennifer Blackwell performance space rather than the main hall.
What they bring is a mix of jazz and calypso, two styles that don't always sit in the same room. Jazz provides the swing and the improvisation, while calypso brings the Caribbean rhythms and the bright, melodic lines. When they run together, you get something that's as much about the dancefloor as it is about the listening.
The Notebenders are the only act on the bill, so the whole ninety minutes is theirs to fill. It's a daytime slot, which changes the feel of a gig — more of a Saturday afternoon thing than a night out, and easier to fit in if you've got other plans on the go.

The performance is hosted by B:Music, the charity that looks after both Birmingham's Town Hall and Symphony Hall. Together, the two venues host more than 850 events a year, with everything from local talent to internationally touring artists passing through. The Jennifer Blackwell performance space is one of the city's free indoor venues, so this is a free one. The music runs from 13:00 to 14:30, and you can get in from 12:30 if you want to find a spot before it starts.
