Newcastle band Rob Heron & The Tea Pad Orchestra plays Western Swing, blues, country, rock and soul at The Kitchen Garden Cafe in Kings Heath.
Rob Heron & The Tea Pad Orchestra play The Kitchen Garden Cafe on Tuesday 3 November, with doors opening at 7:30 pm and the music starting at 8:00 pm. The band is based in Newcastle, and they've spent more than a decade blending Western Swing, blues, country, rock & roll and soul.
They've put out five studio albums over that time: Money Isn't Everything in 2012, Talk About The Weather in 2014, Something Blue in 2016, Soul Of My City in 2019, and The Party's Over in September 2022. They've toured the British Isles and Europe, played Glastonbury and Cambridge Folk Festival, and supported Americana acts like Pokey LaFarge, The Dead South and Sierra Ferrell. They're signed to the German label Migraine Records and have appeared on Radio 4's Loose Ends.
The line-up on the night is Rob Heron on vocals and guitar, Tom Cronin on mandolin, harmonica and guitar, Ben Powling on saxophone and clarinet, Ted Harbot on double and electric bass, and Paul Archibald on drums. With the mandolin, harmonica, sax and clarinet all in the mix, you get a good sense of where that Western Swing and soul influence comes from.
