Sum Cellar's 11th birthday Halloween night with Rinse FM, headlined by D Double E and Plastician.
Rinse FM and Sum Cellar are teaming up for Digbeth Haunting at The Drop Inn on Friday 30 October, and the timing is a bit of a double whammy. Sum Cellar is a well-loved underground bass music night, and this one falls on its 11th birthday, which happens to be Halloween. So it's a birthday party and a Halloween bash rolled into one, with Rinse FM on board for the night.
On the bill are D Double E and Plastician, two names that sit right at the heart of the sound. D Double E is one of the most recognisable voices in grime, known for his distinct flow and the way he works a crowd, and Plastician has spent years at the forefront of the dubstep and bass scene. Putting them together on the same night gives you a good idea of where the evening is heading: heavy basslines and the kind of haunted rhythms that fit a Halloween set.
The promoters are talking up a big line-up, big production and a big sound system to mark the occasion, so it's not just a couple of sets and a quiet room. It's a full-on night of bass music, with the birthday and the date both playing into it.
