Impostor syndrome workshop and networking morning for women in construction, led by Jessica Shuker of The Retrofit Exchange.
REX Women in Construction are back at Medicine Bakery on Monday 16 November, with an impostor syndrome workshop running from 10:00am to 1:00pm. The main session itself sits in the middle, from 9:45am to 11:45am, and the whole morning is built around networking, tea, coffee and pastries. It's a second run of the workshop after the first one sold out, with attendees reporting they left feeling more confident and reassured they weren't alone in the challenges they'd faced.
REX Women in Construction is a networking community that brings together women and male allies across construction, retrofit and the built environment. It was started by Jessica Shuker during her time at South and City College Birmingham, when it went by the name She Builds Birmingham, and she now runs it through The Retrofit Exchange. A qualified teacher and facilitator, Shuker is passionate about creating spaces where women can speak openly about their experiences.
The workshop is designed for women working in construction and the wider built environment, and the focus is on impostor syndrome — that nagging feeling that you're out of your depth or don't belong, even when you've got the skills and the experience to back you up. It's a common enough thing in male-dominated trades, and the session is about talking through it with people who actually get it.
