Pop-up inflatable planetarium brought by Thinktank Science Museum, with a 35-minute tour of the night sky and the solar system led by the museum's Resident Astronomer.
Blakesley Hall is hosting a Pop Up Planetarium on Friday 30 October, with the inflatable dome set up in The Gallery at the Visitor Centre. It's brought to the hall by Thinktank Science Museum, and the whole thing is run by the museum's Resident Astronomer.
Inside, the astronomer leads a tour of the night sky and takes you on a journey through the solar system. It's not a passive thing, either — there's plenty of chance to ask questions and get involved as you go. Each show lasts 35 minutes, and tickets are required and limited, so you'll want to book your slot in advance rather than turning up on the day and hoping for a space.
There are a few practical bits to keep in mind before you head over. All children need to be accompanied by an adult inside the dome, and seating is on the floor with cushions provided — though chairs are available on request if you'd rather not sit on the ground. The dome does get dark at times, which is part of the experience, so just a heads-up if that's something you're not keen on. On the plus side, the whole thing is fully accessible to wheelchair and mobility aid users.
