Exhibition by Ikon Youth Programme in collaboration with Dinosaur Kilby and Emily Scarrott, free and drop-in.
ORCS UPRISE: IYP x free house opens at free house on Saturday 6 November, an exhibition by the Ikon Youth Programme. It's a collaboration between the youth group and two artists, Dinosaur Kilby and Emily Scarrott, and it grew out of conversations around social justice, solidarity and collective action, bringing together the issues the IYP members care about.
Dinosaur Kilby is a Birmingham artist-curator and Creative Producer at Wolverhampton Art Gallery. He completed an Artist-Curator Traineeship at Eastside Projects between 2021 and 2023, and ran Prayer Room with Leah Hickey and Ishmail De Niro from 2023 to 2025. He's currently working on free house itself, a collaboratively run studio complex in Digbeth. Emily Scarrott is a visual artist, writer and educator whose work is preoccupied by speculative fiction, with a fondness for eggs, orcs and extraterrestrials. Since 2024, handmade chainmail has taken sculptural, performative and text-based forms in her practice, reworking its history to tell folkloric, fantasy and sci-fi stories with anti-fascist auras.

The show runs from 6pm to 8pm on the 6th, so it's a short window rather than a long-running exhibition. It's free and drop-in, and you'll find it at free house, 82 Fazeley St, Digbeth, B5 5RD.
