Miranda Sykes and Jim Causley play traditional and contemporary folk songs at The Red Lion Folk Club in Kings Heath.
Miranda Sykes and Jim Causley play The Red Lion Folk Club on Wednesday 16 December, bringing together two of English folk's most distinctive voices. They'll be singing traditional and contemporary songs, accompanied by double bass, guitar, accordion and piano.
They first worked together in 2024 to create and tour a show marking the centenary of the death of the song collector and author Sabine Baring-Gould. Since then, they've recorded and toured an album together, Everything Possible, which they'll be drawing from for this set. It's a pairing of two musicians with very different backgrounds coming to the same stage: Causley is an award-winning Devon songwriter and musician who studied Folk & Traditional Music at Newcastle university and has toured with Waterson:Carthy and David Rotheray, often drawing on the poems of his relative Charles Causley. Sykes, born in Spalding in 1978, started playing double bass at eight and spent more than twenty years with Show Of Hands.
The venue is The Red Lion Folk Club, an award-winning room in Kings Heath. It's the upstairs function room at The Red Lion, Vicarage Road, Birmingham B14 7LY. A few practical things to keep in mind: the room has no lift, and priority seating is available at the end of rows for those with access needs.
