CBSO members' drinks reception to meet the second violins before a concert.
The CBSO are hosting a members' reception at Symphony Hall on Thursday 29 April 2027, and this time the spotlight is on the second violins. It's one of those afternoon gatherings where you get to step inside the hall and meet the people who usually stay tucked away in the orchestra, rather than just watching them from a distance during a concert.
If you've never been to one, the format is pretty straightforward: it's an informal, relaxed reception where members and musicians meet for a drink and a chat before the performance. The whole thing is designed to bring you closer to the orchestra, with staff, players, conductors and soloists on hand to greet you and give you a bit of a behind-the-scenes look at what goes on before the first note is played. It's more about building friendships with other music lovers than anything formal, so it's a good one if you're looking to get to know the team behind the music.
These receptions run on a first-come-first-served basis and vary throughout the season, from afternoon teas and drinks receptions to Q&As, open rehearsals and an annual gala dinner for top-level members. Eligibility depends on your membership level, with Friends getting one reception per season and Gold Patrons up to five. Circles' and Benefactors members are invited to Circles' Drinks at every evening concert.
