New Adventures' UK tour of Matthew Bourne's dance Cinderella, a wartime romance set in London during the Blitz, recommended for ages 8 and over.
Matthew Bourne's Cinderella comes to the Birmingham Hippodrome from Tuesday 9 February to Saturday 13 February 2027, as part of New Adventures' 30th anniversary UK tour. It's a wartime reinterpretation of the fairytale, set in London during the Blitz of 1940. Cinderella meets a young RAF pilot and the two fall in love, their romance told entirely through dance to Prokofiev's score before the bombing raids part them. The production brings back Lez Brotherston's Olivier Award-winning designs, with lighting by Neil Austin, video and projection by Duncan McLean, and sound design by Paul Groothuis.
The cast is shared across the tour. Cinderella is performed by Hannah Kremer and Katrina Lyndon; Reece Causton and Rory Macleod take on the role of the Pilot Harry; James Lovell, Andy Monaghan and Kingston Taylor play the Angel; and Michela Meazza and Daisy West are the Step-Mother Sybil, with Nicole Kabera joining for the UK tour. Only Meazza, who performed in the original 1997 production, returns among the principals, and 73% of the company come through New Adventures' talent development programmes.
It's a full-stage production that doesn't shy away from its wartime setting. You'll see depictions of bombing raids, and the show uses theatrical smoke and haze, strobe lighting and loud noises. Because of that, it's recommended for ages 8 and over.
