An enchanting live concert of dark fantasy film music from Tim Burton's films, performed by The Illuminated Orchestra with live vocalists.
The Illuminated Orchestra are playing The Alexandra on Tuesday 8 December, with a night built around the soundtracks of Tim Burton's films. It's called An Orchestral Tribute to Tim Burton & Dark Fantasy by Moonlight, and the title tells you pretty much what to expect: a live orchestra playing through the cult classics of dark fantasy cinema, with Burton's work as the main thread.
It's not just Burton, though. The show draws on his filmography alongside other cult classics of the genre, so you'll get the music from his movies and a few other dark fantasy scores mixed in. The orchestra is joined by live vocalists, and the whole thing is performed beneath the glow of a giant moon on stage, which sets the mood for the kind of music they're playing. If you've got a soft spot for the gothic, whimsical side of film music, that's exactly where this sits.
The night comes from the same team behind The Best of Hans Zimmer and Film Favourites Illuminated, so it's part of a series of orchestral tributes to cinema rather than a one-off. If you've seen either of those, you'll have a good idea of the format: a full orchestra taking on scores that usually only exist in a cinema.
