The Luke Players' production of Nick Dear's stage adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, the company's final show before its 90th birthday.
The Luke Players are bringing Frankenstein to Moor Pool Hall on Saturday 24 October, their take on Mary Shelley's novel adapted for the stage by Nick Dear. It runs from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm at 37 The Circle, Harborne, B17 9DY.
Dear's adaptation follows the creature from the start: childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, cast into a hostile world by a maker struck with horror at what he's created. He meets cruelty and isolation wherever he goes, and as the years pass, that innocence turns to desperation and then to vengeance. Eventually, he sets out to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal. It's the story most of us know, but told from the creature's perspective, so you spend the play inside his head as he goes from a confused newborn to something far more dangerous.
For The Luke Players, this is a bit of a milestone. They're billing it as their final show before the company's 90th birthday in 2027, so it's the last production they'll put on before that anniversary. If you've followed them for a while, it's a good one to catch before the celebrations properly kick off.
