Free drop-in screen-printing workshop at the Private Press to make a Joe Lycett print, part of his exhibition 'EVERY THING MUST GO'.
Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is hosting a screen-printing workshop on Wednesday 28 October, where you can make your own Joe Lycett-inspired print to take home. It's run by the Private Press, the museum's own screen-printing studio, and you don't need any experience to get involved.
The session is part of EVERY THING MUST GO, Joe Lycett's first major solo exhibition of paintings, which opened at the gallery back in July. The whole show works around the theme of 'things that are no longer with us', hung in a bold salon style that Lycett calls a 'neon graveyard'βthe walls are filled with deceased celebrities, discontinued chocolate bars, extinct animals and destroyed buildings. If you've seen the show, you'll know the kind of imagery it's playing with.
You'll be making your print inside the Private Press itself, a contemporary studio set up in 2013 by creative director and printmaker Gary Parselle. He's worked with the likes of David Shrigley, Yoko Ono, Ai Wei Wei and Jeremy Deller, and runs workshops across the UK, from Glastonbury Festival to the Barbican. So, while you're just turning up for a go, the studio behind it has a fair bit of history.
