The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra brings the animated film to life with its thrilling score by John Powell performed live, presented in HD with subtitles.
The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra are bringing How to Train Your Dragon 2 to Symphony Hall on Saturday 24 October, with the film shown in HD and the score performed live by the orchestra. It's the second film in the series, and the CBSO will be playing John Powell's score in time with the action on screen, so the music you hear is coming from the stage rather than a recording.
The story picks up with Hiccup and Toothless, who discover a secret ice cave filled with wild dragons and a mysterious Dragon Rider. From there it opens up into a battle to save the future of both humans and dragons, and Powell's score follows that arc, with the orchestra providing the orchestral weight and the melodic themes that drive the film's bigger moments. It's a full-length screening, so you'll see the whole thing from start to finish.
Conducting the CBSO for the night is Anthony Gabriele, who'll be leading the orchestra through Powell's score. The performance is promoted by esk live in association with B:Music, and it carries PG age guidance, so it's one you can bring the younger ones along to. The film will also be subtitled.
