Social party inspired by the game of Mafia where players are assigned roles like Mafia, Civilian, Detective or Swindler and play rounds of elimination and voting.
Liars & Friends returns to BOX Brindleyplace on Sunday 15 November for Novocaine November, a competitive social gathering run by The Liar Society UK. If you've seen the BBC show Traitors, you've got the basic idea: it's a game of deception and deduction inspired by Mafia, played in person with a room full of strangers.
When you arrive, you're randomly assigned a role. You might end up as a scheming Mafia member, a Civilian with a special ability — like the Doctor, the Detective or the Swindler — or just a regular townsperson. The game works in a cycle: at night, the Mafia secretly eliminate a target, and the following day brings a round of debate and a vote to 'lynch' a player. Between rounds three and five, the Swindler gets to choose which side to back, which adds a layer of unpredictability to the whole thing. It's pitched as a twist on the average games night, and since you're playing with people you don't know, the bluffing is half the fun.

The session is open to all ages, so it works as a group thing or something to roll up to on your own. BYOB is allowed, and there's a bar area to hang out in with refreshments on offer if you'd rather not bring your own. It runs from 3pm to 7pm, with doors opening at 2pm, so you've got plenty of time to get settled before the first round kicks off. Tickets are £9 for Early Friends, £14 for general admission, or 2 for £20 if you're bringing a mate.
