Jos Rivers

Jos Rivers plays The Sunflower Lounge on Sunday 18 October, with support from Mel Raeburn. It's presented by SJM Concerts, and the night runs from 7:30pm to 10:30pm.

Rivers is a Staffordshire native who's been in music since she was three. By eight she was in singing competitions, and by ten she'd had her first studio session. At fourteen she moved to London for the BRIT School, where she picked up the Accenture Prize for Best Live Performer. Since then she's played Ronnie Scott's and KOKO, with Skye Newman, Meghan Trainor and Ren helping to push her name out. Now eighteen and signed to RCA, she's released her debut album.

Her songs tend to look at the sharp, uncomfortable truths of early adulthood, and she pairs bright, buoyant vocals with a conversational delivery over sparse instrumentals. Tracks like 'Long Time Coming', 'He's A Genius' and '0749' call out sexism and double standards, while finding comedy in the absurdity of it all. It's that mix of the blunt and the funny that gives her work its particular edge.

Tickets are £12, and the show is for ages 16 and over. It's currently sold out, so if you're looking for a way in, you'll need to keep an eye out for returns. The set runs from 7:30pm to 10:30pm at The Sunflower Lounge.
