Folk and country singer-songwriter Jaimee Harris plays the Kitchen Garden Cafe in Kings Heath to present her album 'Boomerang Town'.
Jaimee Harris plays the Kitchen Garden Cafe on Monday 16 November, bringing her second album Boomerang Town to Birmingham. It's a country-folk-leaning record, and the show is presented by Kitchen Garden, open to all ages.
Boomerang Town is an ambitious song cycle that looks at family, addiction and the ties that bind Americans. Harris started working on it back in 2016, a time of great loss in the Americana community when she lost several musicians close to her. Growing up in a small town outside Waco, Texas, she's watched the country's political landscape polarise and, as a person in recovery, has had to re-evaluate her own connection to faith. The record, which she describes as echoing hope in the face of darkness, grew from the intersection of those social, personal and political currents.
It's a singer-songwriter set, so the focus is on the songs and the stories they carry. The album's themes of family and recovery aren't just background—they're what the songs are built around, and they're what she'll be playing live.
