Improvised comedy show set in a 1945 New York jazz bar, with live jazz from the duo Play It Again, part of the Birmingham Improv Festival.
ImprompTwo & Co bring The Jazz Club to MAC Birmingham on Friday 6 November, as part of the Birmingham Improv Festival 2026. It's an improvised comedy show, so nothing is scripted, but it's built around a very specific setting: New York in 1945, in the after-hours of a downtown jazz bar just after the Second World War.
That's the world the cast works in for the hour. They describe it as 'noir with a pulse'—a place where lives are reinvented every night, power shifts, and the banter is laced with intrigue, all scored in jazz. The whole thing is improvised on the spot, so the characters and the story will be different every time it's performed.
There's a large cast on this one: Kathy Rinaldi, Joe Rinaldi, Lloydie Lloyd, Jennifer Jordan, Jen Hardy, Adam Hodgson, Adria Lermia, Sam Marshall and Ryan Byrne. They're joined live by the jazz duo Play It Again—Sam Marshall and Emily Rose—who provide the music that runs through the show. With nine performers on stage and a live band backing them, it's a full ensemble piece rather than a small group.
