The CBSO, conducted by Stephen Bell, plays orchestral arrangements of songs and solos by guitar legends such as Hendrix, Clapton, Black Sabbath and Queen.
Guitar Heroes comes to Symphony Hall on Saturday 27 February 2027, with the CBSO taking the lead. It's a night built around the guitar, tracing its influence across a wide range of styles — blues, rock and metal, disco, jazz and acoustic melodies. The CBSO is joined by a line-up of guitarists and vocalists playing orchestral arrangements of songs and solos made famous by some of the most influential guitarists in history, with a few surprises thrown in.
One of those surprises is a special Black Sabbath tribute for Birmingham audiences only. The rest of the programme takes in music by Black Sabbath, Muse, Jimi Hendrix, Guns N Roses, Santana, Eric Clapton, Queen, David Bowie, Joe Bonamassa, Chic and more. It's a broad sweep of names, so you'll hear the heavier side of things alongside disco and jazz, all worked into orchestral arrangements rather than played as straight covers.
The line-up on stage includes conductor Stephen Bell, vocalists Emma Kershaw, Mick Wilson and Steve Trowell, and guitarists Adam Martin and Alex Voysey. The performance runs about two hours, with a 20-minute interval in the middle.
