A storytelling workshop for young people aged 12 to 16 to craft a ghost story, including a backstage tour of The Rep.
The Rep is running a storytelling workshop called Ghost Story on Thursday 29 October, and the whole thing is built around a bit of a challenge. The theatre's take is that the building has a ghost problem but no ghost story of its own to go with it, so they're calling on young storytellers to come in and write one.
The day starts with an exclusive backstage tour, where you get to see the parts of the theatre that don't usually open to the public and uncover the secrets hidden within the walls. That's the research phase — you spend the morning poking around the wings and the corridors, soaking up the atmosphere of the place, and then you move into the storytelling sessions. Those are designed to build the skills, confidence and imagination you'll need to turn what you've seen into a proper ghost story. By the end of the day, you'll have a finished piece to share with friends and family.

It's aimed at young people aged 12 to 16, so it's a good one to keep in mind if you've got a teenager at home who's into writing or just likes a good ghost story. The whole thing runs from 10am to 4pm at the Creative Learning Hub at The Rep in Birmingham, and tickets are £26 — that includes a £1 restoration levy, though school tickets are excluded from that. It's a full day's work, from the first tour through the backstage to the final story, all under one roof.
