Improvisation workshop led by Joe Bill, improvisation teacher and founding member of Annoyance Theatre in Chicago.
Joe Bill is running a comedy workshop at MAC Birmingham on Friday 6 November, starting at 2:00pm. It's called From Stupid to Brilliant in 5 Lines, and it's a proper teaching session rather than a performance, so you'll be on your feet doing the work rather than sitting in the dark watching someone else.
Bill is a heavy hitter in the improv world, and he's coming over from North America. He's widely regarded as one of the best teachers of improvised storytelling and scenic, longform and duo improvisation. He was a founding member of Annoyance Theatre in Chicago, where he performed in or directed more than 60 shows over 12 years. He's also half of BASSPROV, the first touring improv duo in North America, which he formed with Mark Sutton back in 2000 and is still performing globally 25 years later.
Beyond that, he's toured with a long list of duo partners — Patti Stiles, Jill Bernard, Stacey Hallal, Lee White, Heather Urquart, Felipe Ortiz and David Razowsky — and over the last two years has toured his solo show, Surviving Consciousness: Lessons learned from Cancer, LSD & Michael Jordan. He also created Story Chain, a 90-minute international story-sharing event he developed in 2020, and has created or co-created longform formats like The BAT, The SCRAMBLE and variations of Armando. If you've ever wondered how the long-form stuff actually gets built, this is your chance to hear it from someone who's spent decades doing exactly that.
