Faye Driscoll presents Weathering, a multi-sensory flesh sculpture with bodies, sounds, scents and objects, as part of Fierce Festival.
Faye Driscoll brings Weathering to the Midlands Arts Centre on Friday 16 October, as part of Fierce Festival. It's the work's UK premiere, co-presented with Fabric as part of THIS IS DANCE, and it's a multi-sensory flesh sculpture built from bodies, sounds, scents, liquids and objects. Ten people β dancers, singers and crew β enact a glacially morphing tableau vivant on a mobile, raft-like stage that surges through the Anthropocene, their voices generating a score that crescendos and resonates as they move in a space too small to contain them. The audience stands close enough to smell the sweat and feel the steam of the central, spiraling scenes.
FIERCE describes it as a full-body experience that vibrates and electrifies the senses. Driscoll herself has been called a 'startlingly original talent' by The New York Times, and her CV runs long: a Doris Duke Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Bessie, and the Jacob's Pillow Artist Award, plus an Obie in 2023 and the Grand Prix at the 2024 Prix de la Danse de MontrΓ©al. She's also a 2026-27 Rome Prize Fellow at the American Academy in Rome.
