A family-friendly concert featuring spooky movie themes and classical works, with free craft activities for children aged 6 and over.
The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra are playing a family concert at Symphony Hall on Sunday 25 October, a few days before Halloween. It's a matinee, starting at 3:00pm, and it's built around spooky-season classics for all ages.
The programme mixes movie themes with classical works chosen to ignite the imagination. On the classical side, you'll hear Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre and Mussorgsky's Baba Yaga. The movie themes are just as recognisable: Ghostbusters, Jaws and The Nightmare Before Christmas are all in there. It's the kind of set that works as well for people who know their way around a score as it does for kids who just like the tunes.
Ellie Slorach conducts, with Jane Wright presenting. The CBSO Children's and Youth Chorus, led by Julian Wilkins, join in, so you'll have voices alongside the orchestra. The concert runs for about an hour, and it's suitable for children aged 6 and over. There's also an hour of free craft activities before the music starts, so it's a good idea to arrive early if you're bringing the kids along. The performance is BSL interpreted and is supported by the Clive Richards Foundation.
