Live concert by folk-Americana singer-songwriter Edwina Hayes at the Kitchen Garden Cafe in Birmingham.
Edwina Hayes plays the Kitchen Garden Cafe on Friday 1 January, with the set starting at 8:00 PM. It's a folk-Americana night, and Hayes is the sole name on the bill.
She's a singer-songwriter born in Dublin and raised in Preston, Lancashire, who now splits her time between Yorkshire and Nashville. That transatlantic pull comes through in the music: the folk of the British Isles meeting the Americana of the US. She's built a reputation around a gentle voice and a natural songwriting touch, and the American songwriter Nanci Griffith once called her 'the sweetest voice in England'.
Her solo discography spans two decades. The debut, Out On My Own, came out on Warner Brothers in 2004, followed by the independent Pour Me A Drink in 2008 and Good Things Happen Over Coffee. Her fourth solo album, Ruby Rose, arrived in December 2021. Between those, she fronted the trio Hummingbird, whose album Tougher Than Love came out in 2007, and formed The Mile Roses in 2015. She's opened for Jools Holland and Van Morrison, and has played stages from Glastonbury Festival to the Royal Albert Hall, with Michael Parkinson and Mike Harding among her fans. One of her most widely heard recordings is a cover of 'Feels Like Home', which featured in the film My Sister's Keeper starring Cameron Diaz and has gathered over thirty million plays on YouTube.
