Creative Christmas ornament workshop with dot painting, led by Lowenna Mistry at the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter.
Lowenna Mistry is leading a Christmas ornament workshop at the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter on Saturday 5 December, part of the Creating Calm series. It's a Christmassy twist on dot painting, and the end result is something you can actually hang on your tree.
If you're not familiar, dot painting is all about building a pattern from individual dots of paint rather than sweeping brushstrokes. It's a slow, repetitive process, and that's exactly where the Creating Calm title comes from. The whole point is to settle into the rhythm of it and let the afternoon drift by while you work. You'll be applying that to ornaments this time, so you'll leave with a couple of hand-painted pieces for your own decorations.
Lowenna Mistry is the one running the session. She's a Birmingham-based artist whose work often draws on the slow, meditative side of making, so this fits right in with how she works. The workshop is held at the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter, which is a fitting spot for it — the museum itself is built around the city's history of craft and jewellery, so you're making something by hand in a place that's all about that.

It runs from 11:00 to 13:00 on Saturday 5 December, so it's a two-hour session on a Saturday morning. Tickets are £30 each. If you're looking for something to do that's a bit more about the making than the buying this December, this is a good shout.
