Folk music gig by singer-songwriter and fiddle player Chris Wood at the Kitchen Garden Cafe in Kings Heath.
Chris Wood plays the Kitchen Garden Cafe on Tuesday 2 March, with doors opening at 7:30pm and the music starting at 8:00pm. It's a solo show presented by Kitchen Garden, and it's open to all ages.
Wood is a self-taught musician, composer and songwriter whose work draws on the unofficial history of the English-speaking world, weaving tradition with contemporary parables. He's a fiddle player, a guitarist and a singer-songwriter, and he describes his music as folk-rock, citing 'Anon' as his major influence. His ballad 'Hollow Point', about the shooting of Jean Charles Meneez, won a BBC Folk Award, one of six he's received, and his album So Much to Defend has drawn wide critical acclaim. He's collaborated with Martin Carthy, Billy Bragg, Andy Cutting, Andy Irvine, Karine Polwart and Hugh Lupton, among others. Critics have called him 'the Ken Loach of song writing' and 'the very best we have today'.
