A festive concert of Christmas favourites conducted by Stephen Bell and presented by Jess Gillam, with the CBSO choruses.
The CBSO are back at Symphony Hall on Thursday 17 December for their annual Christmas Party, one of the festive concerts they hold at the venue they call home. It's a big, choral-heavy night that brings together a few different generations of singers under one roof: the CBSO Chorus, the CBSO Youth Chorus and the CBSO Children's Chorus all take part, so you'll hear the full range from the youngest voices up through to the adults.
The programme is a run of Christmas favourites, with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire), Santa Claus is Coming to Town, White Christmas, I'll be Home for Christmas, It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Winter Wonderland and All I Want for Christmas is You all on the list. It's the kind of set that doesn't stray far from the songs you already know, and with the three choruses involved, the vocal side of things takes centre stage.
On the podium is conductor Stephen Bell, and the evening is presented by Jess Gillam. Joining them on vocals are Sumudu Jayatilaka and Tom Solomon, so there are solo voices to go alongside the choral work. The whole thing runs for around two hours with a 20-minute interval, and it's supported by the Clive Richards Foundation and the Leverhulme Trust.
