Closing showcase of BlackFest, the UK-wide festival of Black music, dance, fashion and visual art, with Afrocentric and Black British sounds.
BlackFest comes to Secret Space Digbeth on Friday 30 October, the final Friday of Black History Month. It's the closing showcase of a festival that runs across Liverpool, London, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol, bringing together music, theatre, film, visual arts, fashion, poetry, dance, workshops and community events, with a visual arts exhibition and a workshop programme. The Birmingham date is the culmination of that UK-wide programme.
It started as a platform for Black artists and communities, presenting work across a wide range of creative disciplines rather than limiting Black cultural expression to any one art form. The organiser describes it as a space to celebrate, cultivate and nurture Black artists, creatives and communities, presented unfiltered and uncensored. The Birmingham night pairs Afrocentric music and Black British sounds with dance and skating performances, contemporary fashion and visual art, and independent artists from local, national and international backgrounds. The organiser also makes a point of keeping joy alongside the more serious conversations that Black History Month brings up.

It's the final stop of the whole festival, so it pulls together a bit of everything the project covers. The night runs from 6:00 to 11:00 PM at Secret Space Digbeth, 30-34 River Street, Deritend, Birmingham B5 5SA. A festival pass is £76.55.
