Drop-in afternoon of classical guitar with Nigel Modern in the Pre-Raphaelite galleries.
Nigel Modern is bringing classical guitar to the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery this autumn, with sessions running on selected Saturdays: 17 October, 7 November and 21 November. Each afternoon he plays twice, at 1:00pm and 2:15pm, and each set runs for 45 minutes. The music is held inside the Pre-Raphaelite galleries, so you can drift in and out of the paintings while he plays.
Modern is a classical guitarist who specialises in Spanish and acoustic repertoire. He's spent his career balancing two very different worlds — medicine and music — and has performed in venues like London's Purcell Room. These sessions are a shift in focus: he's now dedicated to bringing the richness of the classical guitar into community settings, sharing its warmth and beauty with audiences who might not otherwise come across the instrument. It's the kind of thing that works well in a gallery, where you can stop for one set or stay for both.
