Folk, blues and Americana songwriter Amit Dattani performs live at the historic Red Lion Folk Club in Birmingham.
Amit Dattani plays the Red Lion Folk Club on Wednesday 21 October, with doors opening at 7:30pm and the music starting at 8:00pm. He's a folk, blues and Americana songwriter whose work has caught the attention of BBC Radio 2 and 6Music, and this is a solo night — just him and his guitar.
Much of the set will come from his latest album, Wrong Kind of One, which he describes as channeling resilience and hope. It's a record that sits across those folk and Americana lines, and hearing it live gives you a better sense of the fingerpicking that underpins the songs. He's known for nimble work on the guitar and a lyrical originality that doesn't always land where you expect, so it's the kind of gig where you can actually listen to the playing as much as the songs.
Critics have been generous with him: Blues Matters called him a master musician, At The Barrier said he sparkles with his deft delivery, and Classic Rock Mag described his music as arresting and uniquely beautiful. Between those, you get a good idea of what to expect — a singer-songwriter who puts as much weight into the guitar as he does into the lyrics.
