A show bringing together live music, song and filmed interviews to explore a worker-led transition to a climate-friendly world.
A Just Transition: Jobs, People, Planet comes to Kings Heath Community Centre on Saturday 24 October, with the First of May Band performing as a duo and the Trad Arts Team hosting. It's a production that mixes live music, song and filmed interviews to look at how a worker-led transition to a climate-friendly world is not only possible but necessary.
The music comes from the First of May Band, appearing here as a duo, and the whole thing is hosted by the Trad Arts Team. The filmed interviews run alongside the live performance, so the night is as much about the conversation as it is about the songs.
The venue itself is part of the story. Kings Heath Community Centre was built by the community for the community and now runs as a co-operative business owned and led by local residents, who can buy shares and help revitalise a landmark of Kings Heath history. Beyond its events programme, the centre delivers vital resident services: Birmingham Housing Advice, weekly food bag distributions and advice surgeries by local councillors and police officers, alongside regular groups like the Kings Heath Art Market, Tai Chi, 50+ Ballroom Dancing and Muay Thai Boxing. The show is presented with thanks to the Sir Barry Jackson Trust.
