Folk/blues/world music gig by the duo A Different Thread, presented by Kitchen Garden, with their album Over Again.
A Different Thread play the Kitchen Garden Cafe on Thursday 29 October, with their album Over Again at the centre of the set. The duo is Alicia Best, from the US, and Robert Jackson, from the UK, and they've been working together since 2016. They met while busking on the cobbled streets of Ireland, and they've toured more than a dozen countries in the years since.
Their sound is a transcontinental blend: Jackson brings a British folk rock background, and Best adds alt-country melodies from her North Carolina roots, with the cello appearing as a regular fixture. They draw on Gillian Welch, The Avett Brothers and John Prine, and Folk Radio UK described them as "warm, deep songwriters that have drank from the well of 20th century tradition".
Over Again was written during a period of transition and recorded across three different spaces: their own tiny home studio, Sylvan Esso's Betty's, and Alma Vale Studio in the UK. They've supported Milk Carton Kids and Jody Stephens of Big Star, and this is a Kitchen Garden presentation.
