Tumble Circus brings its alternative Christmas show to a fully heated Big Top in Writers' Square for its tenth year.
Tumble Circus are back at Writers' Square in the Cathedral Quarter from Friday 18 December, their Winter Circus returning to the city for its tenth year. It's billed as Belfast's favourite alternative Christmas show, and this run marks a decade of it popping up in the same spot. The whole thing is performed in the round inside a fully heated Big Top, so you're not shivering through it.
One thing that sets Tumble apart is that they build a brand-new show from scratch every single year. This one brings in new acts and new performers alongside founders Ken and Tina, plus Grant Goldie, Mish Masherz and Stunt Grandad. On stage, that translates to sky-high aerialists, razor-sharp juggling, acrobatic mischief and hammer-smashing circus craic for all ages. One reviewer once called it 'the best thing I have seen since Metallica'. Tina Segner says they're still in training after a decade because they want people walking out saying, 'I've never seen anything like it'.
The run is supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Belfast City Council and Cathedral Quarter BID. It's a bit shorter than last time, with 26 shows compared to 31. It kicks off on Friday 18 December at 6pm, then Saturday 19 December at 2pm and 5pm, and Sunday 20 December at 2pm. Tuesday 22 December has a 2pm and a 5pm show, with the 5pm one being a relaxed performance. Wednesday 23 December runs at 2pm and 5pm, and Christmas Eve, Thursday 24 December, is at 2pm. Boxing Day, Saturday 26 December, is at 3pm. From Sunday 27 December to Saturday 2 January, there are 2pm and 5pm shows daily, and the run closes on Sunday 3 January at 2pm.
