Cross-island evening of West Cork food, traditional music, singing and céilà dancing, part of the Creative Ireland Shared Island project, strictly 18+.
The Duncairn hosts The Ties That Bind - Sing for your Supper on Friday 13 November, an evening of West Cork food, traditional music, singing and céilà dancing. It's the latest in a cross-island partnership between two grassroots venues: Levis' Corner House in Ballydehob, West Cork, and The Duncairn here in North Belfast. The collaboration was started by Joe O'Leary of Levis' after he met Ray Giffen, the Duncairn's creative director, and it's funded by Creative Ireland's 'Creative Communities on a Shared Island' initiative, with support from the arts departments of Cork County Council and Belfast City Council.
It's been running since July 2024 through residencies, performances and exchanges. The first leg brought thirty artists, musicians, writers and chefs from Belfast down to Ballydehob; the return leg carried thirty more from West Cork up to The Duncairn, with food, tunes, giant puppets and the local jazz festival in tow. Sing for your Supper itself is back for a third year in a row, following two sold-out editions at Levis' Corner House.
The night starts with West Cork platters of local produce before the singing begins, and the best voice wins the price of the supper. On the bill is Maurice Seezer on piano and singing, with a special guest from the Muscraà Gaeltacht leading a Céilà Mór. It's strictly 18+.
