Poet and performer Joshua Idehen brings his new album of spoken word and electronic music to The Limelight at the Belfast International Arts Festival.
Joshua Idehen plays The Limelight on Sunday 1 November, as part of the Belfast International Arts Festival. He's a poet and performer, and the night is built around his new album, I Know You're Hurting, Everyone Is Hurting, Everyone Is Trying, You Have Got To Try.
It's a spoken word record, but it doesn't sit in a vacuum. Idehen worked with Swedish producer Ludvig Parment to set his voice against expansive electronic soundscapes, uplifting choirs and house-tinged beats. The result is a blend of the spoken word and the dancefloor, with the poetry taking centre stage and the music filling in around it. Critics have described the collection as raw, joyous and considered, and noted that it works as easily in a rave setting as it does in a church.
This follows the breakout success of Mum Does The Washing, and Idehen has performed at Glastonbury and Green Man, and appeared on Later... with Jools Holland. The new album is the focus of this show, so you'll hear the latest material given its own space.
