Free evening of songs and stories from Belfast singer-songwriters Clare Galway and Michael Cunningham celebrating the music of Glen Hansard, with a donation to Simon Community Northern Ireland.
The Songs of Glen Hansard comes to the Crescent Arts Centre on Friday 20 November, a night built around the work of one of Ireland's most well-known songwriters. It's not Hansard himself on stage, but two Belfast singer-songwriters, Clare Galway and Michael Cunningham, taking the songs through his career. They'll be threading through The Frames, Once, The Swell Season and his solo work, with each song paired with stories from his life.
The choice of Hansard fits the night's purpose. He's a long-time supporter of people experiencing homelessness, and for years he took part in the annual Christmas Eve busk on Dublin's Grafton Street to raise funds and awareness for homelessness charities. This evening follows that same spirit: it's free to attend, with a donation requested for Simon Community Northern Ireland on the door. All proceeds from the night go to them.

Galway and Cunningham are both based here in Belfast, and they'll be sharing the load across the set, working their way through the different eras of Hansard's output. The evening runs from 19:30 to 22:00 at the Crescent Arts Centre, 2-4 University Road, and it's BYO drinks. Booking is essential even though there's no charge, so you'll want to get your name down in advance.
