A comic reinterpretation of Shakespeare in which Captain Macmorris recruits a gang of characters from the plays to battle the Bard and Iago.
The Great Macmorris plays The Studio at the Grand Opera House on Friday 30 April and Saturday 1 May 2027, with matinees at 2:30pm and evening shows at 7:30pm. It's a comic reinterpretation of Shakespeare, and the title comes from Captain Macmorris, the only Irishman in all of Shakespeare's plays, who gets just one scene in Henry V.
The plot takes him from that single scene to a full-scale war with Shakespeare himself. Macmorris goes after the Bard for better parts and a fair deal for the Irish, recruiting a gang of characters from across the plays to battle him and his ruthless henchman, Iago. It's billed as a whole new comic way of looking at Shakespeare, and the production runs for two hours including an interval. They've recommended it for ages 13+, and you don't need any prior knowledge of the Bard of Avon to follow it.
